As a senior undergraduate student at Simon Fraser University working towards a joint major in Interactive Arts + Technology and Communication, I have examined how internet-mediated technologies continue to permeate our daily lives and the way we communicate. These technologies have facilitated the growth of the digital media realm. Although the digital entertainment industry has grown rapidly in the past 20 years, it is still in its infancy. As an avid gamer, I have been following the digital entertainment industry for over a decade as it has expanded and changed the way we interact and immerse ourselves in society, culture and new web-based communities. As technology, art and narrative continue to deliver experiences not found in other media, the potential to be wholly immersed in these experiences is still nowhere near reached. I look forward to exploring the manipulation of interactive and video based media as it helps us effectively communicate in innovative and creative ways.
